Samantha King received her Bachelor of Science from University of Illinois and Doctor of Audiology from Western Michigan University. She received her Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2007. Dr. King joined the audiology staff at Constance Brown Hearing Center in 2008.  She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Dr. King has experience in all areas of clinical audiology and hearing aid technology. Prior to coming to Constance Brown Hearing Centers, Dr. King was an audiologist at Southwest Regional Rehab Center and the Charles Van Riper Clinic.  Dr. King loves working with her patients.  She notes “I love it because everyone has their own story. I like to learn about their lives and help them to become reacquainted with the world that they have been missing because of their hearing loss. Hearing loss can be so isolating and it is so rewarding to help my patients come out of that isolation and reconnect with loved ones.”



Ms. Hamann received her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology from Carlow College, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and her Master of Science degree in Audiology from the University of Michigan. She has held a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association since 1987. She has been a member of the Constance Brown staff since 1995. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and a longstanding member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Ms. Hamann is particularly skilled in evaluating children, having worked at Children's Hospital of Michigan and Motts Children's Health Center before coming to Constance Brown. She is also an Advisory Committee member for the State of Michigan Early Hearing and Detection & Intervention Program (EHDI).  She presently manages our newborn hearing-screening program, and has expertise in the areas of early hearing detection and intervention as well as central auditory processing disorders.



Kim Kragt, M.A., CCC-A

Audiologist

Ms. Kragt received her bachelor of science degree from Northern Michigan University and her Master of Arts degree from Michigan State University.  She received her certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2001.  Prior to joining CBHC, Ms. Kragt was working in a private practice in Grand Rapids. Kim enjoys working with both children and adults.  Areas of interest include auditory processing disorders and hearing aid technology.  She notes “I enjoy diagnostics but I am especially interested in hearing technology and amplification and how that can be used to significantly improve the life of a hearing impaired person.  I enjoy working with people to determine what their specific needs are and to help them achieve their hearing goals”.

Rachel Clayton received her Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University and Master of Arts degree from Indiana University. She received her Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 1998. Ms. Clayton has been a member of the Constance Brown clinical staff since 1998.  She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Ms. Clayton has experience in all areas of clinical audiology and hearing aid technology. Her areas of expertise include medical audiology and adult hearing aids.

Ed Smith, M.A., CCC-A

       Clinical Director

Prior to joining the staff as Clinical Director for CBHC, Mr. Smith was a staff audiologist for four years at Higgins Hearing Aids. Prior to Higgins Hearing Aids, he was Clinical Director at The William and Leni Carls Speech and Hearing Clinic of Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for twenty-three years. He has a Michigan Audiology License.  Mr. Smith received his Masters of Science from Western Michigan University and his Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Michigan University. He received his Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 1977. In 1984 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Mr. Smith has been professionally active in the Traverse City Lions Club, Grand Traverse Area United Way, Leadership Grand Traverse, and the Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Dr. Mulford received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois, her Master of Arts degree from Western Michigan University and her doctorate from the School of Audiology at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She is a licensed hearing aid dealer in Michigan and received her Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 1970. Dr. Mulford has been a member of the Constance Brown clinical staff for over 35 years.  She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and QUOTA - an an organization whose mission is to help the hearing impaired as well as disadvantaged girls and women. Her areas of expertise include diagnostics, hearing aids and hearing conservation.  She has a special interest in tinnitus.  Her dedication and initiative to the Center has resulted in her participation in developing many programs. Dr. Mulford has considerable experience in audiology, having served as a consultant to several otology clinics and to the Michigan Department of Public Health.  When asked about things she loves about her job, she notes “My true love is diagnostic audiology. I love puzzles – crossword, anagram, mechanical, construction, jigsaw, brain teasers - and each new patient is like a puzzle. How much hearing loss, what type of hearing loss, what does the patient need right now, where do we go from here? I also enjoy the power of being able to manipulate hearing aids and make them do what I want them to do with the computer – so rewarding after so many years of being at the mercy of analog instruments!”
